Muhairis Palace

North of Al-Mubarraz stands Qasr Muhairis, a small watch-and-guard fort built in 1208 AH / 1794 CE by order of Saud bin Abdulaziz (later Imam) during the First Saudi State. Raised in mud brick and stone and roofed with tree trunks and palm fronds, it follows a square plan of roughly twenty metres a side, crowned by a two-storey round tower at its south-eastern corner, its walls leaning gently inward as they rise. It served as a lookout post and a store for provisions and ammunition — its final role before falling out of use. Today a green park adjoins it, and its grounds host heritage and arts events during Al-Ahsa's festival seasons.
