Amiriah School

Al-Ahsa's first formal government school, opened in 1937; its historic building now serves as a house of culture.

On the rise of Umm Al-Khubaisi in the Na'athil district, east of old Hofuf and near the Qaisariyah Souq, stands the Amiriah School, Al-Ahsa's first formal government school. Classes began in 1356 AH / 1937 CE in rented premises, and its permanent home opened in 1360 AH / 1941 CE in Arab-Islamic style, with an arched entrance and an inner courtyard ringed by arcades. Generations of the region's sons studied here. The building has been restored as 'Bait Al-Thaqafa' (House of Culture), a landmark preserving the memory of Al-Ahsa's educational awakening.
