Today two rare scenes meet at Al-Uqair: soft white sands stretching in from the desert, and the clear blue of the Arabian Gulf beginning where the sand ends. The remains of mud buildings and the old fort still guard the place, reminding the visitor that this quiet shore was once the heart of restless movement.
