Sahood Palace is a fortress at the heart of Al-Mubarraz, built in the late twelfth century AH, its six-metre walls guarded by seven watchtowers. Restored by the Heritage Commission, it is one of the twelve components of the Al-Ahsa Oasis UNESCO World Heritage site (2018).
Qasr Sahood rises at the heart of Al-Mubarraz: a massive fortress spreading over some 10,000 square metres, its six-metre walls guarded by seven watchtowers and once ringed by a defensive moat. Built in the late twelfth century AH, it witnessed episodes of Al-Ahsa's resistance to Ali Pasha's campaign. Within its walls the fort gathered a mosque, a well, stores, soldiers' quarters and stables, sheltering townspeople in times of siege. Restored by the Heritage Commission, it is today one of the twelve components of the Al-Ahsa Oasis site inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2018.
