Al-Ahsa Museum

The official regional museum; presents Al-Ahsa's history and antiquities across the ages.

The Al-Ahsa Museum in Hofuf is the oasis’s official government museum, opened in the early 1980s (1404 AH). Its archaeological and heritage pieces tell the region’s story in sequence, from Stone Age finds through Dilmun and Gerrha to the Islamic eras and the Saudi States.

In Hofuf sits the Al-Ahsa Museum for Archaeology and Folk Heritage, the oasis's official government museum, opened in the early 1980s (1404 AH) on a site of roughly four thousand square metres. It holds archaeological and heritage pieces telling the region's story in chronological sequence, beginning with Stone Age finds from sites such as Ain Qannas, through the civilisations of Dilmun and Gerrha, to the Islamic eras and the First and Second Saudi States. Alongside the main exhibition hall are a reception gallery with maps of archaeological sites and historic photographs of Al-Ahsa from the 1930s and 1940s, a lecture hall and a conservation section. It makes an ideal starting point for understanding the oasis's depth before touring its landmarks.
