Al-Arba Mountain

Four adjoining conical hills south-east of Hofuf, a favourite camping and desert-trip destination.

Some 22 kilometres south-east of Hofuf, on the road heading towards Salwa and Qatar, rise the hills of Jabal Al-Arba — four adjoining conical formations of reddish sedimentary rock, thought to have once been a single hill split apart by erosion, which is how the mountain earned its name ('the Four'). The town of Al-Taraf lies about six kilometres to its north, and the mountain is one of southern Al-Ahsa's best-known spots for camping, desert trips and hiking. Al-Ahsa Municipality has launched a project to humanise the Jabal Al-Arba road, making the landmark easier to reach.
