In the heart of Hofuf's historic Al-Koot district, near the house and religious schools of the Al-Mulla family, stands the Mosque of Sheikh Muhammad bin Abi Bakr Al-Mulla — also known as the Eastern Mosque — one of Al-Ahsa's oldest heritage mosques, dating back some three centuries. Built of mud, gravel and palm trunks, it long served as a centre of learning where lessons in fiqh, Quranic exegesis and grammar were held, its imams drawn generation after generation from the Al-Mulla scholarly family. It was rehabilitated in the first phase of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historic Mosques, completed in 1441 AH / 2020 CE, preserving its traditional character while accommodating around 125 worshippers.
